Description

A creamy and cheesy potato bake inspired by French onion soup, perfect as a comforting side dish for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs starchy potatoes (Russets or Yukon Golds)
  • 2 large sweet onions (Vidalia or Walla Walla)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Fresh thyme
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice the potatoes thinly.
  3. Slice the onions and sauté them in butter until caramelized.
  4. In a baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes and caramelized onions.
  5. Pour heavy cream over the layers and season with salt, pepper, and fresh thyme.
  6. Top with shredded Gruyère cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-60 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can sprinkle some garlic powder or nutmeg in the layers.
